RJ is an Australian artist and creator who has spent the last 14 years in Japan. She currently lives at the base of Mount Fuji, a place that has become a source of endless inspiration.She makes moving-image artworks and immersive experiences about the things we cannot hold onto — time, whatever we love, clouds, dogs, long-held beliefs. Her sensibility is shaped by a fascination with ephemera and by the Japanese concept of 物の哀れ (mono no aware), the bittersweet awareness of impermanence.Her studio develops cinematic, immersive and cultural works that turn abstract ideas into experiences that can be felt viscerally. She is interested in how technology can deepen our awareness and make us feel more human, not less.
